Frequently Asked Questions About Trauma Therapy and Counselling in Singapore
What is integrative therapy for trauma?
Instead of using a one-size-fits-all approach, we carefully blend different psychotherapy techniques to match your unique story, symptoms and goals. This allows us to address trauma not just in your mind, but also in your body and nervous system, leading to more complete and lasting healing.
I’ve tried regular talk therapy before. How is this better for trauma?
Many people find that talking about trauma doesn't fully resolve it. This is because trauma is often stored in the nervous system and body, not just the thinking brain. Our integrative approach uses powerful body-based and experiential techniques like EMDR and Schema Therapy to process and rescript your painful past experiences—not just talk about them—leading to more profound and lasting recovery.
What is EMDR, and how can it help me?
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a powerful therapy designed to help the brain process and heal from traumatic memories. It uses bilateral stimulation (like guided eye movements) to help your brain's natural healing system reorganise disturbing memories, much like what happens during REM sleep. The result is that past events lose their emotional intensity, allowing you to recall them without being overwhelmed.
How does Schema Therapy work with trauma?
Schema Therapy helps identify and heal the deep, long-term patterns that trauma often creates. These patterns (or schemas) might include feelings of being defective, unlovable or unsafe. We work to understand the origins of these schemas and help you learn to rescript these patterns in healthy ways, fundamentally changing how you see yourself and relate to the world.
How long will it take for me to feel better?
Healing is a personal journey, and the timeline varies for everyone. Some clients feel a sense of relief and hope after just a few sessions from feeling truly heard and understood. Deeper, lasting change—the kind that rewires patterns you’ve had for years—typically takes more time and commitment. Typically, clients attend 8–20 sessions, but we will adjust the pace according to your needs and goals.
I feel like my problems are too complicated. Can you really help?
Yes. Complexity is exactly what integrative psychotherapy is designed for. Many of our clients come to us after feeling stuck in other therapies. By using proven psychotherapy methods, we can address layered issues like childhood trauma, anxiety and relationship patterns simultaneously.
